The Builder is your primary tool for creating activities within the platform. Whether you're starting from scratch, leveraging AI to generate content, or importing existing materials, the Builder provides a flexible environment to design engaging learning experiences for your students.

Overview of the Builder Interface

Before diving deeper, let’s take a quick tour of the Builder interface to familiarize yourself with its layout and functions.

Initial Screen:

On the initial screen, you’ll find a left-hand menu at the top-left corner that includes the Content, AI Creator, and Settings options.

  • Content:
  • This is where you can create, edit, and delete cards for your activity.
  • AI Creator:
  • This is the chat interface with Chatty, which allows you to create cards using artificial intelligence.
  • Settings:
  • Here, you can configure global settings for the activity, such as the title, description, and other overall settings.

Content Tab

The Content tab is divided into two main areas:

  • Navigation Bar (Left Side):
    • This is where you’ll navigate through your activity's content.
  • Add Cards to Your Activity:
  • You can add new cards by clicking the plus button next to "Content."
  • Clicking this button opens a visual interface showing the different types of cards you can add to your activity.
  • Welcome Page and Ending Page:
    • These are the first and last pages your students will see when they start and complete an activity. Both can be modified to suit your needs.
    • Between these pages, you'll find the various cards you've added to your activity, such as Repeat Cards, Respond Cards, Multiple Choice Cards, and Media Pages as above.
  • Main Visual Area of the Content Tab:
    • This is where you’ll edit the selected card. This area primarily features a toolbar with specific configurations for each card type.
    • Below the toolbar, you'll find the Student Action area, where students will interact with the activity based on the card you've placed.

AI Creator Tab

The AI Creator tab allows you to interact with Chatty, your Speakable Assistant, to help you create activities. The interface is divided into two main sections:

  • Left Panel: Displays the cards that Chatty has created or is in the process of creating.
  • Right Panel: This is the chat interface where you can type prompts or upload files. You can instruct Chatty on the type of activity you want to create.

At the bottom, there’s an option to Upload files, allowing you to provide additional material, such as PDFs, for Chatty to base the activity on.

Settings Tab

The Settings tab allows you to configure the overall settings for your activity. Here, you can set the activity's name, description, target language, and the native languages of your students. You can also choose whether to make the activity public, allowing other users to view and use it.

The Settings tab is divided into the following sections:

  • General Settings: Configure the basic details of your activity, such as its name, description, and languages.
  • Repeat Settings: Customize settings specific to repeat actions within the activity.
  • Respond Settings: Adjust settings for response-based actions.
  • M.C. (Multiple Choice) Settings: Manage settings related to multiple choice questions.

For more detailed information on each of these settings, please refer to the dedicated section on settings configuration. (Add a link to settings section)

Methods to Create an Activity

Now that you have an overview of the Builder interface, let's explore the different ways you can create an activity:

  1. Creating with AI
  2. Importing a Vocabulary List
  3. Create from Scratch

Creating with AI

Using AI to create activities is both quick and efficient. Here's how it works:

  • Interaction with Chatty:
  • You'll be directed to a screen where you can tell Chatty what type of activity you want to create. Simply describe the activity, and Chatty will generate relevant content for you. Additionally, Chatty can create activities based on files such as PDFs, allowing you to convert existing materials into interactive activities.
  • Review and Add Cards:
  • Once Chatty has generated the cards, you'll be able to review them. You can choose to add these cards one by one, as many times as you like, or you can add all of them at once if you're satisfied with the results.
  • Editing and Adding More Content:
  • If you've already added cards using Chatty and want to edit them or add more content manually, you can do so by clicking the Content button located at the top of the left sidebar, as shown in the image below:

Notes:

  • Chatty might ask you about the level of your students, the difficulty of the questions, and other parameters depending on your initial prompt.
  • Chatty may also request confirmation before creating the cards. Once you confirm, the cards will be created automatically.

Create from Scratch

If you prefer full control over your activity, you can create it from scratch. This option allows you to manually build each card, ensuring that every aspect of the activity meets your specific needs.
